The president of the International Boxing Federation said the IBF heavyweight title will be vacated if champion Mike Tyson competes in a 12-round fight against Michael Spinks June 27 at Atlantic City, N.J.
The IBF, governing body for the fight, wants a 15-round bout, but the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Assn. insist that the heavyweight championship fight should be scheduled for 12 rounds.
Larry Hazzard, chairman of the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, said if the sanctioning bodies fail to reach an agreement by Monday afternoon, he will make the decision.
