A Huntington Beach businessman who underwent a heart transplant Tuesday was in fair condition and “doing well” Wednesday at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Presbyterian.
Doctors upgraded the condition of the 54-year-old patient from critical to fair. He received the heart of a 35-year-old Los Angeles man, according to Hoag spokeswoman Pam Bolen.
The heart recipient, who asked not to be identified until he leaves the hospital, had been suffering from advanced heart disease at the time of the operation. “He’s doing very well now,” Bolen said.
Tuesday’s heart transplant was the fourth such operation in Orange County and the second performed at Hoag. The other two transplants, including the first, on April 8, were performed at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
