Bicycle, Skateboard Ban Considered
Bicycles, skateboards and roller skates would be banned in Beverly Hills business districts under an ordinance introduced on Tuesday.
The City Council will have a final vote on the proposed ban on June 21. If adopted, the ban would take effect 30 days later.
The ban was proposed after a child riding a skateboard on South Palm was struck and injured by an automobile.
Councilwoman Vicki Reynolds said that although the restrictions would apply only to business districts, she hopes that the ban will make children and parents more aware of the dangers of riding skateboards and bicycles on any street.
The proposed ordinance defines a business district as a street where 50% or more of the contiguous property is occupied by buildings used for business.
