The Ventura County Community College District has appointed Stanley L. Bowers to temporarily replace Moorpark College President Ray Hearon, who is leaving on a one-year sabbatical July 1, officials of the college announced Wednesday.
Hearon is leaving to conduct a study on relations between business and industry and community colleges across the United States and abroad, said Gerry Olsen, a spokesman for the college.
Hearon has been president for 14 years. It has not been decided whether he will return to the post in 1989, Olsen said.
Bowers, who was appointed acting president by the community college districts board of directors on Tuesday, came to the college in 1977 as dean of student and personnel services. Before his appointment, he was vice president of administrative services at the college.
Bowers holds a doctor of education degree from the USC.
