Board OKs Change in School Borders
In an effort to ease crowding at Horace Mann and John Marshall elementaries, the Glendale school board Tuesday voted to expand the borders of three nearby schools.
The changes, the first of school boundaries in the district since 1977, will result in the reassignment of 129 students from Mann to John Muir Elementary, 33 students from Marshall to Richardson D. White Elementary and 22 students from Marshall to Glenoaks Elementary School.
In the last three years, district enrollment has grown dramatically at the elementary level. Mann and Marshall, both in the southern part of the city, where a large number of Asian, Latino and Armenian immigrants have settled, have been severely affected by this growth.
The change is effective Sept. 1.
