Local News in Brief : Landlord Fined $7,000
- Share via
A Los Angeles landlord has been ordered to pay nearly $7,000 in penalties after pleading no contest to charges that a Westlake district apartment building he owns was in a state of severe disrepair.
The sentence against Mark Kaplan was imposed by Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Barry Kohn after Kaplan pleaded no contest to five violations of various health, fire and safety code regulations at the three-story, 27-unit building at 1117 S. Westlake Ave.
The fine of $6,874 includes a $5,000 contribution to the Union Rescue Mission in Skid Row. Since the charges were filed by City Atty. James K. Hahn in February, the necessary repairs have been made, prosecutors said.
