Measure A Sparks Debate Over Growth and County’s Future
Why hasn’t Orange County’s press exposed the motive (greed) and the methods (deceit) which lie at the heart of the developers’ battle against Measure A, a battle which has been fought on several fronts since Citizens for Sensible Growth got 96,000 signatures to put the initiative on the ballot?
Initially, the developers sought to keep Measure A off the ballot by going to court. When their suits failed they entered into developer agreements with the Board of Supervisors. They have now formed and financed a bogus citizens’ group to defeat Measure A with slick, fraudulent ads on radio and billboards and in newspapers and mailers.
When a free press fails in its responsibility, a failure in democracy is not far off.
