Events in the news this week.
Tuesday is California’s primary election. In Orange County, hot issues include Measure A, the countywide slow-growth initiative, and fiercely contested races for the GOP nomination in two congressional districts, the 40th and 42nd. There are 22 Republicans vying for nomination in the politically conservative districts.
Statewide, voters will decide on their preference among candidates for President and determine the nominees for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Pete Wilson, who is running for reelection. Statewide ballot measures address such issues as AIDS and stiffer penalties for the murder of peace officers, and include a number of bond measures.
