New Mayor Sonny Bono tells us he’s hired Hollywood PR firm Mahoney & Wasserman to help make Palm Springs “the St. Tropez of America.†And he’s negotiating with the William Morris Agency to provide celebrities for special events, like a film festival “to rival Cannes--but don’t expect me to go out and seek a Cher film!â€
The warbler/actor, who makes 15,000 big bucks a year for his four-year City Hall gig, added, “I want to sell Palm Springs as a celebrity city . . . Palm Springs isn’t Hollywood, but I don’t see why we can’t get rich and fat being associated with it.â€
Bono--who said he’ll be nixing weird sexual or killer screen roles in keeping with his new status--has gotten a load of fan mail since his election.
His favorite asked, “Do you need a councilman?†and closed, “An Unemployed Politician.â€
It was signed, “Clint Eastwood.â€
