Bert Rigby, You’re a Fool! (Lorimar/Clear). Shooting in England and L.A. Carl Reiner pens and directs a tale of an English coal miner who leaves his sweetie behind to pursue fame and fortune in a traveling amateur contest. His attempts at stardom end up a fiasco, but ultimately he becomes a hero as he winds up drawing investors to the brewery of his economically starved hometown. Producer George Shapiro. Stars Robert Lindsay, Robbie Coltrane, Anne Bancroft, Corbin Bernsen, Cathryn Bradshaw, Bruno Kirby and Jackie Gayle. Distributor Lorimar.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (a.k.a. “King of the Mountainâ€) (Orion). Shooting in Nice. Frank Oz directs Steve Martin and Michael Caine in a comedy from the word processor of “Ruthless People’s†Dale Launer. A handsome and suave French Riviera con man (Caine) extorts currency from rich women while posing as a deposed royal prince when along comes a cocky yank (Martin) who cuts in on his game. This Beth Henley comedy follows Holly Hunter as she enters a local beauty contest in an effort to attain success and break free from Smalltown U.S.A. Executive producers Lewis Allen and Ross Milloy.
