In other 2-A quarterfinals:
Castle Park 13, Hoover 6--Juan Beltran was 2 for 4 with 5 RBIs, and Juan Pena and Cesar Gutierrez each had 3 RBIs for Castle Park (24-4-1). Hoover finished 19-10.
USDHS 11, Crawford 1--Brent Whalen’s three-run double keyed a five-run, fifth-inning rally for USDHS (17-11), which plays Mission Bay Saturday. With two out in the fifth, USDHS loaded the bases. Crawford pitcher Jeff Wilcox walked in one run, and Whalen followed with his double that gave USDHS a 4-1 lead. Tony Moeder hit a two-run homer during a five-run USDHS seventh. Duke Gonzalez pitched a 5-hitter.
Mission Bay 4, San Pasqual 0--Sean Rees struck out 15 in a 2-hitter for host Mission Bay (23-3-1). J.T. Thomas singled with the bases loaded to score two runs during Mission Bay’s four-run third inning. Another run scored on a fielding error, and Colin Davis drew a bases-loaded walk. All four runs during the inning were unearned. San Pasqual finished 16-10.
