The Navy on Thursday identified the victim of a drowning that occurred during a SEAL training swim as Lt. Paul Christopher Station of Omaha, Neb.
Station’s body was found beneath a tug moored at the southern end of the 32nd Street Naval Station after he failed to surface late Tuesday from a routine exercise involving eight members of the Navy’s elite SEAL commando unit.
Station, 29, a 7-year Navy veteran, and his diving buddy became disoriented underwater, bumped into one another, and separated, a Navy spokesman said. Station was not seen again, and his body was found four hours later beneath the tug.
A preliminary investigation indicated he drowned, but the circumstances leading to his death remained unclear, the Navy said. The investigation was continuing.
