A spokeswoman for the International Olympic Committee re-stated that North Korea will not be allowed to co-host the Seoul Summer Olympics in September but will be welcomed at the Games up until the Closing Ceremony.
At a news conference for domestic media, IOC spokeswoman Michele Verdier said the “consistent position of the IOC” is that “we cannot accept the North Korean proposal to co-host the Olympiad,” the Yonhap News Agency said.
The IOC and South Korea offered to let North Korea stage archery, table tennis, women’s volleyball, a 100-kilometer cycling race and a preliminary round of soccer to promote the Olympic spirit.
