A missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead to India’s major cities was test-fired in Pakistan last month, the New York Times reported. It said an unidentified Reagan Administration official confirmed a report from Pakistan about the test, but the official provided no independent details. However, an Administration official told United Press International, “We have no information that it’s true.” In Islamabad, a Pakistani with close ties to the government of President Zia ul-Haq said the missile was launched at a test range in the Thar Desert of southern Pakistan on April 25.
