The county coroner’s office Monday identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed while crossing Harbor Boulevard May 1 as a Santa Ana man.
Andres Mendoza Carrizal, 54, had tried to run across Harbor Boulevard near Verbena Court when he was struck by a car in the northbound lane, a coroner’s spokesman said. Mendoza had been carrying amnesty documents with him that had not been filled out.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died May 5 without being identified.
Mendoza’s identity was discovered when relatives contacted police after a Spanish-language newspaper published an article on the accident, the coroner’s spokesman said.
The motorist, who remained at the scene, was not charged.
