OH, OSCAR!

Regarding “Oh, Oscar, You’re Making Us Blush,” by Leo Braudy (April 10): I did not see the 1984 Oscar program but cannot see how Shirley Temple’s tribute to dancer Bill Robinson--”He taught me black was really beautiful”--is at all embarrassing. How fortunate for Temple to have learned the truth early; how decent of her to say so. Even today, for all their successes, minorities are still on the downside in the entertainment industry.
