Nurse Shortage
I read once again an article about the shortage of registered nurses. It may surprise you that many registered nurses, like me, cannot find employment in a hospital. I gave up my job at Los Angeles County Hospital to raise a family. When my youngest child was in school, I took a 5-month refresher course at a community college, bought uniforms and looked forward to working again.
I contacted over 20 hospitals in Los Angeles and Orange counties and did not even get a single interview. Every nursing recruiter lost interest when I told her that I had no recent experience. They were only trying to hire nurses from other hospitals.
