Regarding Howard Rosenberg’s article “Television the Terrorizer” (May 11), I do agree that Geraldo Rivera’s programs interviewing Charles Manson were merely self-serving and exploitative.
However, a lesson could have been learned from interviewing a man like Manson, and not surprisingly, Rivera couldn’t deliver it.
Had he researched Manson’s case history and psychological profile, or merely read Vincent Bugliosi’s book “Helter Skelter,” Rivera’s questions might have even been intelligent, more directed toward Manson’s bizarre philosophies rather than idiotic name-calling and finger-pointing.
Asking Charles Manson why he killed nine people is sort of like asking Hitler why he killed 6 million. You won’t get a straight answer, and you need to see the big picture.
