Rio Mesa 11, Don Lugo 5--Five Rio Mesa batters had at least two hits as the Spartans won at home.
Leading the 14-hit attack was freshman Dmitri Young, who was 2 for 3, including a two-run homer that sparked a five-run first inning.
Also for Rio Mesa (19-6-1), Damon Dicus hit a two-run single in a six-run sixth inning during which the Spartans took advantage of four hits, two walks and an error.
Cerritos 5, Burroughs 2--The Indians (11-13) stranded 10 runners and were limited to two hits by Tony Couto (8-0). Tom Phillips singled and later scored on Keith Morris’ single in the first inning for Burroughs’ only hits.
Mario Joy’s groundout in the third inning scored Jeff Harper for Burroughs’ other run.
Fred Dulay had a two-run home run in the third and an RBI single in the fifth for Cerritos. Mark Mattingly had three hits.
