Nelson of Newport Beach Beaten in 45s Tennis

Jim Perley of Coronado defeated Jim Nelson of Newport Beach, 6-1, 6-2, in a quarterfinal match of the Men’s 45s National Hardcourt championships Friday at the Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.
Perley, a two-time finalist, is the tournament’s top-seeded player.
In other quarterfinal matches, Billy Higgins of Arcadia defeated Larry Dodge of San Francisco, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5; Len Saputo of Walnut Creek defeated Bob Duesler of Newport Beach, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, and Jeff Schubert of Arizona defeated Bob Siska of San Francisco, who retired.
In doubles, the top-seeded team of Duesler and Nelson defeated Higgins and Bill Gardner, 6-3, 6-2, in their quarterfinal match.
The semifinals will begin at 11 a.m. today.
