Marines Cut 5 Years of Lonetree’s Sentence

QUANTICO, Va. — The Quantico Marine Base commander on Friday cut by five years the 30-year prison sentence imposed on former Marine Sgt. Clayton J. Lonetree in a Moscow embassy sex-for-secrets case.
Lt. Gen. Frank E. Petersen also lifted the $5,000 fine imposed on Lonetree after his Aug. 24 espionage conviction in a court-martial. Petersen acted after a review of Lonetree’s case “because of his total cooperation and conduct during his voluntary post-trial debriefings by counter-intelligence specialists.”
Gunnery Sgt. Dean Chamberlain said Lonetree would be eligible for parole after serving one-third of his sentence.
