Baby Pygmy Whale Dies After Mother Beaches Self

ORLANDO, Fla. — A beached baby whale died Friday of multiple internal maladies and its species’ resistance to captivity despite all-out human efforts to save it, officials said. The 5-foot pygmy sperm whale died before dawn at the Sea World rehabilitation and medical center, 2 1/2 days after its fatally ill mother washed ashore near a pier at Long Beach, N.C.
