Neiman Marcus Group reported earnings of $4.3 million in its third quarter, less than half the year-ago total. But, the company said, payment of preferred dividends and accretion of redeemable preferred stock mean that there will be a $1.7-million net loss. The company cited a “catch-up effect” from a change in accounting methods announced in the first quarter. The Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based company is one of the nation’s leading retailers.
