The program that distributes free federal food to the poor in Merced, Mariposa and northern Fresno counties has run out of food. Harry Dull, director of the Merced County Community Action Agency, said thousands of “working poor” will be hurt because distributions scheduled from May 25 to June 7 have been canceled. Last month, the agency gave cheese, butter, powdered milk and other items to 7,155 households in Merced County.
