Local News in Brief : Newport Beach : Woman Killed When Car Slams Into Seawall

An unidentified woman believed to be about 40 years of age was killed early Thursday when her car slammed into a concrete seawall on Balboa Island, Newport Beach police said.
The woman was found about 2 a.m. in the front seat of a 1985 Pontiac Grand Am on the South Bay Front Alley near the Grand Canal, police said.
The woman was the sole occupant of the car, which had been traveling east along the alley at an undetermined speed when it hit the 3-inch-thick seawall, police said.
Paramedics treated the woman at the scene and transported her to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival, police said.
Cause of the crash is still under investigation, police said.
