News Corp. Ltd. said net income for the third quarter fell to $17.9 million from $30 million a year ago. Revenue rose 22% to $1.05 billion. The Sydney, Australia, firm is a diversified international media and entertainment group. The latest earnings include extraordinary items, principally from gains in the exchange by shareholders of a subsidiary’s preference shares into shares the company owned in Reuters PLC and the profit on the sale of publishing properties in the United States, reduced by the start-up costs for Fox Broadcasting Co.
