Point Loma Women Win NAIA District 3 Track Title

Susanne Johansson set three meet records and the Point Loma Nazarene College women’s track and field team won its first NAIA District 3 championship Saturday at Santa Barbara City College.
Point Loma Nazarene finished with 167 points. Azusa Pacific, which had won every title since 1982, when District 3 was established, was second with 162 points.
Johansson placed first in the triple jump (36-feet 6-inches), 100-meter hurdles (14.78 seconds) and 400-intermediate hurdles (60.19). All three were meet records.
Point Loma Nazarene clinched the victory when Connie Navarro placed third in the 200 meters in 25.77, which is a school record.
The Point Loma Nazarene men’s team finished second (157 points) to Azusa Pacific (232).
For Point Loma Nazarene, Ron Samuda was first in the triple jump (45-4 1/2) and Kyong Song was first in the hammer (180-3).
RUGBY
The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club defeated Denver, 29-16, in a semifinal game at the National Rugby Club Championships in Albany, N.Y.
Denver took a 3-0 lead, but OMBAC came back to lead at halftime, 26-13, and was never threatened in the second half.
OMBAC will play Milwaukee today for the championship. Milwaukee beat the Washington Rugby Club, 21-6, in the other semifinal.
