JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 73-year-old woman who kept her life savings in a safe deposit box, fearing another Great Depression, lost her $80,000 to con men, officials said Saturday.
The woman, who was not identified, withdrew her money last week after a man phoned her, claiming to be a police sergeant, and said someone was exchanging the money in her box for counterfeit money and that her savings were needed for use as evidence.
