Insurance Initiative by Trial Lawyers Allowed

SACRAMENTO — The 3rd District state Court of Appeal on Thursday turned down without comment a petition from the insurance industry that the court invalidate the insurance initiative backed by the California Trial Lawyers Assn. on grounds that it violates a constitutional ban on dealing with more than a single subject.
The same court recently ruled that the original version of the industry’s no-fault auto insurance initiative violated the single-subject rule.
Last week, about 650,000 petition signatures for the lawyers’ initiative were formally filed with county clerks.
