Senegal Election Loser Draws Suspended Term

DAKAR, Senegal — Opposition leader Abdoulaye Wade was given a one-year suspended jail term Wednesday on charges of inciting widespread riots after last February’s presidential election in Senegal.
Wade was arrested immediately after losing the Feb. 28 election to President Abdou Diouf. The vote count showed Diouf with 73% and Wade with 26%. The opposition said the vote was rigged, and there were widespread riots in Dakar.
