Girls’ Athletes of the Week : SWIMMING

Hilltop’s Jennifer Dawes continued the marked improvement of her swimming times. Thursday, Dawes helped the Hilltop girls clinch the South Bay League title with a 100-77 victory over defending league champion Coronado.
Dawes, a senior, automatically qualified for the San Diego Section meet with a 100-yard freestyle time of 56.88 seconds. She also swam 2:22.49 in the 200-yard individual medley.
SOFTBALL
Crawford defeated Our Lady of Peace, 9-2, in a City Central League game last Thursday behind the play of Nicole Johnson and Tracy Leathers. Johnson was 4 for 5 and scored 4 runs, and Leathers was 4 for 5 with 5 runs batted in.
TRACK
Anita Dulay of Orange Glen had never jumped farther than 15-feet 6-inches in a meet before last week. But she jumped 17-6 in a dual meet May 3 and went a county-best 17-8 3/4 at Poway on Thursday. What happened?
“She’s the hardest worker on the team,” Orange Glen Coach Mike Cummings said. “It had to pay off sooner or later.”
