Among California Democrats who say they plan to vote in the presidential primary June 7, Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis leads the Rev. Jesse Jackson by 67% to 26%, according to a Gallup Poll being released today.
The results are based on a survey of 487 probable Democratic primary voters, and the likely statistical margin of error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.
The telephone survey also asked 1,205 registered California voters whom they would favor if either of the Democratic contenders was running against Republican front-runner Vice President George Bush. Dukakis edged Bush by 46% to 42% while Jackson lost to Bush, 58% to 31%. The trial heats had an error probability of 3 percentage points.
