NEW YORK — Jane Amsterdam, a senior editor at the New York publishing house of Alfred A. Knopf and a founding editor of Manhattan Inc., today was named editor of the New York Post.
Post owner Peter Kalikow said Amsterdam, 36, will replace Frank Devine next month. Devine will leave the paper by the end of the year and return to Australia for personal reasons, Post spokesman Howard Rubinstein said.
Amsterdam’s appointment marks the first major personnel change at the Post since it was sold to Kalikow, a Manhattan real estate developer, in March by Australian-born publishing magnate Rupert Murdoch for $37.6 million.
Amsterdam joins an elite handful of women who are top editors of newspapers with circulations of more than 100,000.
A former editor of the style section and the investigative unit of the Washington Post, Amsterdam currently is a senior editor with Alfred A. Knopf.
