Freeway Killer Gets Life Term
A motorist who fired a gun into a passing car and killed a mother of three was sentenced today to 27 years to life in state prison.
Ronald Elam, 28, was convicted in March of first-degree murder, plus first-degree attempted murder for shooting at, but missing the mother’s sister, who was also a passenger in the vehicle. He was sentenced by Compton Superior Court Judge Madge Watai. Deputy Dist. Atty. Janet Moore said Elam, of Los Angeles, fatally wounded the woman Aug. 16 during an outbreak of shootings on Southern California streets and freeways.
