Bodies of 2 Found in Plane Wreckage
SAN DIEGO — The bodies of an El Cajon couple who died when their small plane crashed into a mountain in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park were found Sunday by San Diego County sheriff’s deputies.
Authorities said the couple, identified by the coroner’s office as Robert and Christina Hampshire, had left Gillespie Field shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday for a Mother’s Day trip to Tucson, Ariz. Eighteen minutes after takeoff, the single-engine Piper Cherokee disappeared from radar screens.
The wreckage was found early Sunday, about 6 miles north of Interstate 8 and 3 miles east of California 79.
The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating.
