Spring snow driven by strong winds piled higher in the Rocky Mountains, where one gust near Boulder, Colo., was clocked at 110 m.p.h. A winter storm warning calling for snow accumulations of up to a foot was posted for Montana mountain peaks, and advisories for snow and blowing snow remained in effect for south-central Wyoming mountains, the National Weather Service said. Strong northerly winds ushered a cold front into the plains, producing severe thunderstorms that threatened tornadoes across the nation’s midsection and spewed hail from Kansas City to Hazel, S.D.
