College Roundup : Staab and Kline Lead UC Irvine Past Pacific, 7-5

Gordon Staab and Doug Kline had three hits each to lead UC Irvine to a 7-5 victory over the University of the Pacific Friday in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. baseball game at Irvine.
Irvine rallied from a 5-2 deficit with five runs in the seventh. John Seeburger doubled to open the inning and scored on a single by Kline. Osmar DeChavez tripled in Kline, then scored the tying run on a single by Marcus Robinson. Robinson later scored on a single by Jeff Oberdank, who has now hit in 48 of Irvine’s 57 games.
Dean Douty (6-6) threw his second complete game of the season for Irvine (28-28-1, 7-12). He allowed 14 hits, 12 of them singles, and struck out 11. Pacific is 20-29, 9-10.
In the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.:
Chapman 9, Cal State Northridge 5--Tony Gardea had a double and a three-run homer to lead Chapman (25-23-1, 14-12) at Northridge. Chris Cutliff had 2 hits and 2 RBIs and Mike Grahovac homered for Chapman.
In Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. softball:
Cal State Fullerton 3-6, Nevada Las Vegas 1-2 (First game 9 innings)--Fullerton loaded the bases on a walk and two singles, then Missy Coombes hit a sacrifice fly to put Fullerton ahead, 2-1, and Paula DeBree singled to drive home another run in the opener. Val Van Kirk and DeBree had 2 hits and 2 RBIs each in the second game.
