Michael J. Shaara; Pulitzer-Winning Author

Michael J. Shaara, 59, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author who won in 1975 for his Civil War novel “The Killing Angels.� He also authored other books and short stories as well as numerous articles. His other books included “The Broken Place,� “The Herald� and “Soldier Boy.� Shaara taught English at Florida State University from 1961 to 1973. In recent years he had pursued his craft at home but gave some lectures. Shaara began as a writer of science fiction, but moved to history and adventure novels and had recently written a short story about baseball. In Tallahassee, Fla., on Thursday of unreported causes.
