Michael J. Shaara; Pulitzer-Winning Author
Michael J. Shaara, 59, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author who won in 1975 for his Civil War novel “The Killing Angels.†He also authored other books and short stories as well as numerous articles. His other books included “The Broken Place,†“The Herald†and “Soldier Boy.†Shaara taught English at Florida State University from 1961 to 1973. In recent years he had pursued his craft at home but gave some lectures. Shaara began as a writer of science fiction, but moved to history and adventure novels and had recently written a short story about baseball. In Tallahassee, Fla., on Thursday of unreported causes.
