The University of Southern California held its 105th spring graduation ceremony Friday in Alumni Memorial Park. Degrees were conferred on 5,147 students, including 4,427 undergraduates, 300 master’s, 150 doctoral and 270 professional candidates.
Keynote Speaker: Gov. George Deukmejian, on California in the year 2010, said: “Our preparation for the next century begins with what you’ve already been a part of: making sure all Californians get a good education. Educational excellence is the pride of a society that is determined to wipe out poverty and provide each citizen with a good job, a decent place to live, a nourishing diet and the chance to give their children even more.”
Honorary Degrees:
Deukmejian.
Sir Randolph Quirk, president of the British Academy.
Miklos Rozsa, Hungarian-American composer.
Olga Taussky-Todd, professor of mathematics at Caltech.
