Left-wing guerrillas in Colombia promised to free 12 people, including several foreign diplomats, abducted to protest what the rebels say are human rights violations and foreign exploitation of the country’s natural resources. The pro-Cuban National Liberation Army said the hostages are in good shape and will be set free soon at a news conference in Bogota. Those kidnaped since Monday include two West German honorary consuls, the French Embassy’s assistant cultural attache, two Swiss citizens, a Colombian politician and six Colombian journalists.
