Panamanian authorities released 38 opponents of military strongman Manuel A. Noriega who were arrested last week in a crackdown on the opposition, their lawyer said. Attorney Eusebio Marchosky said that 28 people jailed during an opposition rally were freed after paying fines and that 10 others charged with subversive activities were freed on bail. One of the latter was a Panama Canal worker, Enrique Marquez, whose arrest drew a protest earlier this week from the Panama Canal Commission, the U.S.-chartered agency that operates the waterway.
