POP LP CHART : A Leap of ‘Faith’; ‘Dancing’ Dips

People can talk about Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson all they want, but the hottest artist in the business this week is George Michael. His “Faith� album has just moved into the No. 1 post, and his No. 4 single, “One More Try,� looks like it could soon top the singles list. One of the surprise smashes of the decade, the “Dirty Dancing� sound track has sold more than 6 million copies and has been strutting around on top of the Billboard pop album chart for 19 weeks. But it finally slipped to No.2, just ahead of the sequel, “More Dirty Dancing,� which has been No. 3 for a month. Two new metal albums bolted into the pop Top 20--Iron Maiden’s “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son� (No. 15) and the Scorpions’ “Savage Amusement� (No. 18). Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine have the new No. 1 single, “Anything for You.�

* Rap is still on a roll. “He’s the D.J., I’m the Rapper,� by the up-and-coming rappers D.J. Jazzy Jeff roared to No. 45 on the pop chart.
