High School Baseball : USDHS Has the Final Word in the 12th Inning, 6-5
Don’t ask Dick Serrano, University of San Diego High School baseball coach, the specifics about Duke Gonzalez scoring from first with two outs in the bottom of the 12th to give USDHS a 6-5 victory over University City in a City Western League game Monday.
He didn’t see it.
“I didn’t want to look,†Serrano said. “When I sent him home, I turned around.â€
University City (7-13, 1-9) scored three times in the 12th to break a 2-2 tie, but USDHS (11-8, 6-3) rallied with two outs in its half of the inning.
Pitcher Matt Siesell, who went the distance for the victory, and Steve Walker walked. Tony Moeder, Gonzalez and Brent Whelan followed with singles. Gonzalez scored from first on Whelan’s single when University City’s left fielder bobbled the ball.
