Bomb Found at British Base
DETMOLD, West Germany — A homemade bomb was discovered at a British army base today, just two days after Irish Republican Army attacks killed three British soldiers based in West Germany.
Detmold officials said that the two-pound bomb was discovered in a civilian parking area on the base and that explosives experts were on the scene. British authorities sealed off the parking lot and the surrounding area. Three senior airmen in the Royal Air Force Regiment died in bomb and shooting attacks Sunday in the Netherlands. The airmen were visiting Dutch discotheques and bars when they were killed. The Irish Republican Army claimed responsibility for one airman’s death.
