Biden Has Repeat Surgery
WASHINGTON — Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. underwent surgery today to repair an aneurysm in an artery supplying blood to his brain, a spokesman at Walter Reed Army Medical Center said.
Hospital spokesman Peter Esker said Biden, 45, was awake, resting comfortably and talking with his family after the operation. He said Biden would be hospitalized for about 10 days. The operation had been anticipated since February when doctors discovered the aneurysm while repairing a more serious aneurysm. An aneurysm is a ballooning of an artery. The danger is that the aneurysm will burst, and in the brain, even a mild leakage can be damaging.
