Mayo Clinic scientists have discovered the gene that causes arthritis in mice, a significant step toward possible cures for arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus and related diseases in people, researchers said. Tariq M. Haqqi, a molecular biologist at the Rochester, Minn., clinic, discussed the discovery of the gene, called the Vb6 gene, during the annual meeting in Las Vegas of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.
