Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Robber Sprays Chemical in Fleeing With Gems
A lone gunman held up a jewelry story in the downtown area at 5:05 p.m. Monday, authorities said. The robber escaped, apparently on foot, into heavy rush-hour traffic after tying up the store owner and spraying the store with a Mace-like caustic solution, they said.
Police said they did not immediately know how much in money and jewels the robber seized from John’s Jewelry & Gems Co. in the 300 block of Forest Avenue. Store owner John Chung, 34, suffered breathing problems after the gunman sprayed the store with an unidentified caustic substance.
