A reputed San Pedro gang member who police say imitated the killer in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” films has been ordered to stand trial for murder and seven other felonies.
San Pedro Municipal Judge Richard Berry held Angelo Regino, 19, for trial for the murder and attempted robbery of San Pedro longshoreman Johnny Healy. If convicted, Regino could be sentenced to death.
Regino has also been charged in four other attacks and faces two counts of attempted murder, three charges of robbery and an additional charge of attempted robbery.
Los Angeles police Lt. Larry Kallestad said one of the victims told investigators that Regino said he was Freddy Krueger, the fictional killer in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” films.
