Colors Fallout

Could the real reason gangs and some vocal, influential people are against showing “Colors” be that the movie will expose average citizens to gang sign language, gang methods, motives and the severe problems police face trying to protect innocent blacks and people of other “colors”?
Could it be that after seeing “Colors” most citizens would do all they could to oppose the growth of gangs?
