Local News in Brief : Huntington Beach : Man Poses as Detective and Robs Supermarket
A dapper gunman in a pin-striped, charcoal business suit, who was masquerading as a detective, robbed a supermarket manager of $1,500 Friday afternoon, police said.
No one was injured in the holdup shortly before 1 p.m. at Vons supermarket in the 5900 block of Edinger Avenue, Police Lt. Chuck Poe said.
The robber, who escaped on foot, had earlier called the store manager claiming to be a detective, Poe said. The man set up an appointment with the manager, ostensibly to show him photographs of suspects in a non-existent forgery case.
The robber “showed up at the time set,†Poe said. Once inside the manager’s office, he pulled out a stainless steel semiautomatic pistol, Poe said.
The gunman was described as in his late 30s or early 40s, 6 feet tall, weighing 150 to 160 pounds, with a dark complexion and mustache.
